REGINALD : THE  MUSINGS OF AN EDWARDIAN GENTLEMAN

Commissioned in 2020 by the Presteigne Festival with funding from the Colwinston Charitable Trust, Reginald: The Musings of an Edwardian Gentleman is a music theatre work for narrator, three vocalists, and chamber ensemble. The composition explores the acid wit and macabre humour of the Edwardian writer Hector Hugh Munro, known as ‘Saki’, presenting five abridged texts from his 1904 collection Reginald. These musical vignettes allow us to glimpse the absurdities of upper class Edwardian society, brilliantly captured by Saki in his playful prose.

This work received its digital premiere as part of Presteigne Digital 2020, with Christopher Good as narrator and the Nova Music Opera Ensemble conducted by George Vass.
